A new agreement to care for children with cancer

The social security system has witnessed a qualitative shift, through the recent agreements concluded between the Ministry of Labor and the Social Insurance Fund for Salaried Workers, the most recent of which is an agreement to sponsor radiotherapy to care for children with cancer.
On Tuesday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Labor, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Mohamed Siddiq Ait Messaoudane, supervised the signing of a partnership agreement between the National Social Insurance Fund for wage-earners and a number of public and private hospital institutions specialized in radiotherapy to care for children with cancer.
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security explained that this agreement falls within the framework of implementing the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, issued during his meeting with the National Committee for Cancer Prevention and Control, in which he stressed the necessity of ensuring full and free care for children with cancer, especially radiotherapy.
The Ministry of Labor also confirms that this initiative reflects the strong political will of the state to make the social security system an effective tool to take care of the needs of its members, in a way that establishes equal opportunities for treatment and restores hope to families suffering from the illness of one of their children, and children waging a courageous battle against the disease.
The Ministry of Labor added that Algeria, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, is adopting a comprehensive and integrated approach to dealing with incurable diseases, based on five strategic pillars, including ensuring free treatment, including complex and expensive cases, expanding and modernizing health infrastructure by establishing cancer control centers and equipping them with the latest means.
The approach also depends on the adoption of modern health governance, embodied in the development of the necessary mechanisms to serve citizens and care for their needs within a forward-looking vision aimed at ensuring treatment for citizens on the homeland and alleviating the suffering they face when traveling for treatment abroad, as well as supporting scientific research and training national competencies, which contributed to reducing the number of referral cases for treatment abroad, while encouraging national medical competencies, valuing their performance, and creating health poles. Supported by the interests of the Ministry of Labor.
The Ministry noted the role of all actors in the success of this project, from medical and administrative teams, to social security officials and directors of health institutions, and stresses that this endeavor falls within Algeria’s new vision of building an integrated national health model that puts citizen health at the core of its priorities.
The Ministry renewed its commitment to follow up on the implementation of these agreements on the ground, and to ensure their effectiveness, in order to serve the citizen and preserve his health, calling for concerted efforts to confront future challenges, aimed at taking care of citizens, especially those related to health care in the field of cancer control.
