Civil Protection records a heavy toll in traffic accidents

Civil Protection Services revealed that 1,195 traffic accidents were recorded within a week, leaving 38 dead and 1,448 injured, while 672 people in danger were rescued, while 5 deaths from carbon monoxide gas were recorded.
A statement by the General Directorate of Civil Protection stated, on Tuesday, that during the period from February 8 to 14, 2026, civil protection units recorded 28,909 interventions, and this was as a result of receiving distress calls from citizens. These interventions included various areas of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, health evacuation, fire suppression, and security services’ coverage of various demonstrations.
With regard to health evacuations, the Protection Units carried out 17,273 interventions, through which 17,164 wounded and sick people were treated and evacuated to hospitals, while in the context of traffic accidents, the Protection Units carried out 2,169 interventions for 1,195 traffic accidents that led to the death of 38 people and 1,448 wounded people who were treated and transferred to hospital centers. It is considered the heaviest toll recorded in the state of Tebessa, with 5 people dying at the scene of the accidents and 22 Injured as a result of 18 traffic accidents.
The protection units also recorded 896 interventions that allowed the extinguishing of 541 fires, including domestic, industrial and various fires, the most important of which were recorded in the state of Algiers 81 fires, Blida 39 fires and Annaba 23 fires, while the same units in the field of various operations carried out 8571 interventions in order to save 672 people in danger and cover 7417 ambulance operations.
On the other hand, regarding incidents related to poisoning with carbon monoxide gas (Co) emitted from various means of heating and water heaters, the protection units carried out 34 interventions that allowed the provision of first aid to 80 people poisoned by this dangerous gas who were transferred to hospital institutions, with the death of 4 people poisoned by carbon monoxide gas recorded.
