The work of the Executive Council of the African Union begins in Addis Ababa – New Algeria

The 48th session began of the Executive Council of the African Union, Today, Wednesday, in Addis Ababa, which continues over two days, with the participation of the Minister of State, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed KindnessThis was commissioned by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
This ministerial meeting, which will be held in preparation for the 39th African Union Summit scheduled for February 14 and 15, will discuss a number of issues and files related to the role and status of joint African action in addressing the most important political, security and development challenges facing the continent.
Among the most important topics on the table of African foreign ministers are: studying the report of the 51st regular session of the Permanent Representatives Committee of the African Union, which was held between January 12 and 30 last, reviewing the report on the African Union’s participation in the G20, adopting the reports of the presidential committees of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and the G10 for reform of the United Nations Security Council and climate change.
Participants will elect ten (10) members of the African Peace and Security Council, in addition to electing and appointing three (3) members of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and electing and appointing seven (7) members of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
During the opening of the 51st ordinary session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the African Union, the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Ali Mahmoud Youssef, highlighted the strategic importance of the 39th African Union Summit, which, as he said, comes at a “delicate stage that the continent is going through,” especially in light of the current challenges in the field of peace and security.
The President of the Commission highlighted, during his meeting with the mayors of the regions of ATo the African Union On February 5, the summit’s priorities include implementing the second ten-year plan of the 2063 agenda, promoting climate action, and supporting intra-African trade within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area, highlighting that the theme of the summit for this year will revolve around water as “a vital resource for life, development and sustainability.”
