The Zimbabwe Football Association announced, on Thursday, its agreement with its Algerian counterpart to schedule a friendly match for next November.

The same source did not reveal the date of the match or the stadium that will host it.

In addition to the Greens, Zimbabwe will also face another Arab team that succeeded in reaching the 2026 World Cup finals, Qatar’s Al-Anabi.

The Warriors team aims to prepare for the upcoming African Championship in Morocco.

Nqobile Mugwezi, President of the Zimbabwean Federation, described the Algerian and Qatari teams as a real and courageous test for his players.

The draw placed Zimbabwe in the second group, where it will face Egypt, South Africa and Angola.

For its part, the national team will face Sudan, Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea in Group Five.

The Greens’ next competitor is ranked 129th in the world and 36th in Africa.

Zimbabwe without a coach

The Warriors finished the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, without achieving any victory.

The team is at the bottom of the third group, which saw South Africa qualify. With five points achieved from five draws and five defeats.

Yesterday, the President of the Football Association, Nqobile Mugwezi, made the decision to dispense with German coach Michael Ness.

Algeria faced Zimbabwe for the last time in 2020, when Djamel Belmadi was coaching the Greens at the time.

The 2022 African Cup qualifiers match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The then Greens captain, Riyad Mahrez, scored a wonderful goal at the National Stadium in Harare.

The Saudi Al-Ahly star manipulated the opponent’s defence, before putting the ball into the net after an individual effort.
