The Ministry’s Director of Media and Communications, Khalil Hudna, explained on Tuesday that a cell Vigilance Follow-up at the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies recorded 720 technical malfunctions, including 667 malfunctions at the level of the electricity distribution network and 53 malfunctions at the level of the electricity transmission network, due to violent winds.
He added that the number of subscribers affected by fluctuations in electricity distribution during this period, until eight o’clock in the evening last Saturday, amounted to 1,848,902 subscribers affiliated with Sonelgaz, stressing that the electrical supply had been restored to all concerned subscribers.
The same official indicated that the average time for restoring electrical power, from the moment of receiving the notification until the intervention and final repair of the fault, did not exceed 30 minutes in most cases, with the exception of some faults recorded at the high-voltage network level.
In this context, special malfunctions were recorded affecting about 800 subscribers in the Tifrit region, Tizi Ouzou province, and 900 subscribers in Draa El Zaman, Boumerdes province, where the average time to return supplies exceeded 10 hours, due to the difficult terrain, the timing of the malfunctions occurring at night, in addition to the strong winds accompanied by rain that prevented immediate technical intervention.
Hudna noted that the duration of intervention to repair damage is affected by several factors, including the accessibility of the accident site, the timing of its occurrence, and the prevailing weather conditions.
As for the main causes of the recorded electrical faults, they were mainly the fall of trees on the network, the fall of supports and power lines, and in some mountainous areas the collapse of electricity transmission poles, the ministry representative adds.
Regarding natural gas supplies, he stressed that no fluctuations or damage were recorded, as the continuity of gas supply to all subscribers across the entire national territory was guaranteed.
