WAG: Fuel prices in Algeria are among the lowest in the world – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Algeria continues to rank first in the world in terms of low fuel prices, including compared to a number of major oil-producing countries, thanks to the support policy that the state adopts annually by allocating significant sums of money to maintain price stability.

According to recent data published by the Algerian News Agency on global fuel selling prices, Algeria occupies advanced ranks, as a liter of gasoline is sold for 47 dinars (about $0.36), and a liter of diesel for 31 dinars ($0.25), while the price of liquefied petroleum gas/fuel (GPL) does not exceed 12 dinars per liter ($0.09).

The price of gasoline in Algeria is much lower compared to major oil countries, such as Saudi Arabia, where a liter is sold for $0.621, and Russia for $0.834. The price in the United States of America is about $0.835 per liter, and in Iraq it is about $0.649.

As for diesel fuel, its prices in several oil-producing countries record levels approximately four times higher than the Algerian price, as it is sold in the United States for $0.925 per liter, and in Russia for $0.951, while it remains relatively lower in some Arab countries, without approaching the low level adopted in Algeria.

Regarding liquefied petroleum gas (GPL), Algeria is at the forefront of the cheapest countries in the world, as its price is more than four times lower than Saudi Arabia and Russia, which reflects the amount of support directed to this type of fuel.

Fuel prices updated in 2026
With the beginning of 2026, fuel prices in Algeria witnessed a slight improvement, as the price of gasoline rose from 45.62 DZD to 47 DZD per liter, diesel from 29.01 DZD per liter, while the price of liquefied petroleum gas moved from 9 DZD to 12 DZD per liter.

The Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines explained, in a statement, that this modernization comes within the framework of implementing the applicable legislative and regulatory texts, with the aim of ensuring continuous supply to the national market and covering the increasing production and distribution costs.

The Ministry confirmed that the approved prices do not reflect the true cost of the product at its various stages, noting that the public treasury still bears the bulk of the final price in order to preserve purchasing power and support economic activity.

According to the Finance Law of 2026, the state allocated a financial envelope of 657 billion dinars to support the prices of widely consumed items, including fuel, as part of the continuation of the social support policy.
