USM is defeated in Congo

USMA was defeated by two goals to one, on Sunday evening, in the confrontation that brought it together with Maniema of the Congo for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the African Confederation Cup, in the city of Lubumbashi.

Manyema took the lead through Clement Pitroipa five minutes before the end of the first half, after the referee announced a penalty kick due to Islam Marilli handling the ball with his hand.

Ittihad Al-Asimah scored striker Ahmed Khalidi in the same way in the 52nd minute.

Hossam El-Din Ghesha took advantage of being alone with goalkeeper Ditan, forcing him to commit a mistake that led to the referee awarding a second penalty kick in the match.

The Algerian team had several opportunities to score in the second half, the most dangerous of which was through top scorer Khalidi, who shot a ball over the goalkeeper that hit the right post.

Ghesha once again went one-on-one with goalkeeper Dayan, raising the ball over him and scoring a second goal, which the referee ruled out for offside.

For his part, Manyema took advantage of the confusion in the Al-Ittihad defense after executing an indirect free kick, and Xhosia Mwanda scored the winning goal in the 64th minute.

The squad of Senegalese coach Lamine Ndiaye has the opportunity to make amends, next Sunday, on the occasion of the return match at the July 5, 1962 stadium in the capital.

USMA needs to score a goal and keep a clean sheet in order to qualify for the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup.
