On Thursday, naval forces were able to rescue two people after a rubber boat capsized north of Ain al-Turk in Oran.
A statement by the interests of the Ministry of National Defense said: “Within the framework of the humanitarian tasks and efforts of the Coast Guard units of the Naval Forces Command, related to saving human lives at sea, and following the regional center for guarding and rescue operations at sea in Oran, the western waterfront of the 2nd Military Region, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, received a distress call, following the capsizing of a rubber boat with three (03) people on board, 300 meters from the beach of Coralaz Ain Turk – Oran.”
He added: “Immediately, a rescue operation was activated at sea, by engaging Coast Guard rescue boats and the LS-16 search and rescue helicopter belonging to the 560th Search and Rescue Helicopter Squadron, where the stranded people were rescued and evacuated to the public hospital institution in Ain al-Turck to provide them with the necessary medical care.”
This operation, the same statement adds, falls within the framework of the humanitarian tasks of the Coast Guard units of the Naval Forces Command, which reflects the efforts made and the extent of their keenness to intervene to save human lives at sea, in all circumstances.
On the other hand, the Ministry of National Defense revealed the operational outcome of the People’s National Army during the period from February 25 to March 3, 2026, during which detachments from the People’s National Army were able to eliminate two (2) terrorists in Ain Defla in the First Military Region and recover two (2) Kalashnikov-type pistols and two (2) Kalashnikov machine guns and a quantity of ammunition.
Other detachments of the People’s National Army also arrested (8) members of support for terrorist groups, during separate operations across the national territory.
In the field of combating organized crime, (37) drug dealers were arrested, attempts to bring (5) quintals and (22) kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco were thwarted, and (1,174,080) hallucinogenic tablets were seized.
Detachments of the People’s National Army also arrested (325) people and seized (42) vehicles, (229) electric generators, (138) pressure hammers, and (4) metal detectors, in addition to quantities of a mixture of gold ore, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and In Guazzam.
(15) other people were also arrested, and (1) submachine gun, (1) automatic pistol, (5) hunting rifles, (39,710) liters of fuel, (22) quintals of tobacco, and (21) tons of food materials destined for smuggling were seized, during separate operations.
Coast guards thwarted illegal immigration attempts on our national coasts and rescued (108) people on board traditional-made boats, while arresting (81) illegal immigrants of different nationalities across the national territory.
