Traffic accidents claim 26 deaths and 1,194 injuries in a week

The Civil Protection Services revealed that 1,073 traffic accidents were recorded within a week, leaving 26 dead and 1,194 injured, while 3 deaths were recorded as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A statement by the Civil Protection Directorate stated that during the period from February 1 to February 7, 2026, civil protection units recorded 27,856 interventions, and this was as a result of receiving distress calls from citizens. These interventions included various areas of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, health evacuation, fire suppression, and security services’ coverage of various demonstrations.

For health evacuations, the protection units carried out 16,959 interventions, through which 16,755 wounded and sick people were treated and evacuated to hospitals, while in the context of traffic accidents, the same units carried out 1,885 interventions for 1,073 traffic accidents that led to the death of 26 people and the injury of 1,194 others who were treated and transferred to hospital centers. It is considered the heaviest toll recorded in the state of Algeria, with 3 people dying at the scene of the accidents and injured. 105 others as a result of 110 traffic accidents.

The Civil Protection Units also recorded 850 fires, including 502 fires, including domestic, industrial and various fires, the most important of which were recorded in Algiers Province 81 fires, Blida 34 fires and Annaba 29 fires, while the Protection Units in the field of various operations carried out 8162 interventions in order to save 675 people in danger and cover 7067 ambulance operations.

On the other hand, with regard to incidents related to poisoning by carbon monoxide (Co) gas emitted from various means of heating and water heaters, during the same period, civil protection services carried out 36 interventions that allowed the provision of first aid to 69 people poisoned by carbon monoxide (Co) gas. They were transferred to hospital institutions, with the death of 3 people poisoned by carbon monoxide gas recorded.
