Towards the issuance of a new decree prohibiting the calculation of soil and roots in the balance of sale – New Algeria

The Consumer Protection Organization announced on Monday that the executive decree regarding impurities and excesses in vegetables and fruits will soon enter into force.

According to the organization’s statement, this measure comes after the issuance of a joint ministerial decision dated October 2, 2024, specifying the characteristics and conditions for displaying vegetables and fruits intended for sale to the consumer.

The decision prohibits the sale of vegetables and fruits with their leaves or parts of them unfit for consumption, and requires that the products offered be free of soil, stones, plant residues, and stems and leaves unfit for consumption.

This measure also aims to protect consumer health, ensure the quality of food products offered in the markets, and reduce health risks resulting from consuming unsuitable parts of vegetables and fruits.
