Towards the establishment of an Algerian-Russian Chamber of Commerce – New Algeria

Members of the “Algeria-Russia” Friendship Parliamentary Group, headed by Abdeslam Bechagha, held talks, today, Tuesday, at the Council’s headquarters, with the Russian State Duma delegation led by Dmitry Sablin, coordinator of the group of representatives in charge of relations with the parliaments of the Middle East and North Africa countries, where they discussed ways to support and enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, Bashagha welcomed the guest delegation, explaining that his visit to Algeria would complement the work accomplished by the Algerian parliamentary group when it visited Russia last July, with the aim of strengthening and consecrating the bonds of friendship.

By the way, the head of the group praised the distinguished bilateral relations based on the foundations of consultation and mutual respect, explaining that they are reflected in close positions on a number of international issues.

At the same level, Bashagha stressed that the friendship that brings together the two peoples requires strengthening the role played by parliamentarians in supporting and developing cooperation, through exchanging visits and encouraging investment, especially in the fields of education, culture, tourism and other areas of common interest.

For their part, the members of the group took the opportunity to praise the opportunity this visit constitutes to open new horizons for economic and cultural cooperation and to introduce the tourism potential that Algeria abounds, especially since the delegation will visit the state of Djanet during this period.

They also pointed out that considering Russia as Algeria’s second economic partner provides a real opportunity to expand the partnership between the two countries in sectors and investments that serve the interests of both countries.

For his part, Dmitry Sablin explained that this visit does not only aim to review Algerian legislation, but also aims to engage in dialogue, exchange views, and consult on ways to expand bilateral cooperation in several fields, in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples.

Sablin stressed that parliamentary cooperation can play a pivotal role in supporting the efforts of the leadership of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations, noting that Russia has adopted a policy that has strengthened its economic independence, through serious reforms in the fields of agriculture, advanced technology, and artificial intelligence.

In their interventions, members of the Russian Duma called for the need to develop economic relations, especially in the commercial field, by stimulating transport movement between the two countries, and establishing an Algerian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, which allows strengthening cooperation between economic operators in both countries, in addition to expanding cooperation in the fields of education and tourism, and taking advantage of Algeria’s strategic location as a gateway to access the Algerian market and from there to African markets.
