This is the first day of Ramadan in Algeria – New Algeria

Association issued “Sirius for Astronomy“, a detailed statement that includes accurate astronomical data related to the birth of the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH/2026 AD, explaining the scientific conditions for observing the crescent and the start date of fasting.

I specified Ministry of Religious Affairs The Night of Doubt, corresponding to Shaaban 29, 1447 AH, falls on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. As for the conjunction of the crescent of Ramadan 1447 AH, it will occur on Tuesday, February 17, at 13:01 according to local time.

The association revealed that the age of the crescent at sunset that evening will not be sufficient to enable it to be seen with the naked eye from our region, according to all approved astronomical standards.

Not far from that, the moon will remain above the horizon in the city of Algiers for only approximately 6 minutes after sunset.

The statement also indicated that, coinciding with the conjunction, a central annular solar eclipse will also occur, but this phenomenon will not be visible from the region. Although the moon will be above the horizon at sunset, the crescent will not have formed yet to the extent that allows it to be observed. Therefore it will be invisible even in the best observing conditions.

Accordingly, from a purely astronomical standpoint, it is concluded that the month of Shaban will be completed with thirty days, so that Thursday, February 19, 2026 will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan, in Algeria, based on the direct visual sighting of the crescent.
