The United States tightens visa requirements for Algeria

The administration of US President Donald Trump has included Algeria among the list of countries whose citizens are required to pay financial guarantees of up to $15,000 when applying for entry visas to the United States, with the decision taking effect on January 21, 2026.
The decision includes 25 other countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America, bringing the total number of countries subject to sponsorship to 38 countries.
The American authorities explained that the goal of the sponsorship is to ensure that the applicants leave on time.
With a refund in the event of refusal of the visa or compliance with the conditions.
These measures come within a comprehensive policy to tighten visa grants, which includes personal interviews for all applicants.
Disclosing their records on social media, providing details of previous travel and residence for them and their families,
Amid warnings that the decision may make obtaining visas very expensive or difficult in developing countries.
