The United Nations affirms Palestinian sovereignty over natural resources – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The United Nations General Assembly adopted, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution affirming the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources.
The Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) said that 156 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 8 countries opposed it and 10 abstained from voting.
The decision confirms a set of legal principles related to Palestinian resources, including the application of the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, in addition to the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024 regarding the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
The resolution also stressed the inalienable and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their natural resources, calling on the Israeli occupation to stop exploiting them, and the right of the Palestinians to demand compensation for any previous exploitation. He pointed out that the construction of settlements, the construction of the wall, and other occupation practices constitute environmental damage to the Palestinian land, also stressing the call of the Security Council in its Resolution No. 2334.
For his part, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, praising the overwhelming support and international sympathy, and stressing the need to oblige the Israeli occupation to implement it.
