The postal and telecommunications sector in Algeria will witness a structural transformation based on modernization, inclusion, and digital sovereignty, as the sector’s plan during the new phase will focus on accelerating the dissemination of very high traffic and expanding the deployment of fiber optic technology.
According to a statement by the ministry, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sayed Ali Zerrougui, held a coordination meeting with local officials of the sector, devoted to assessing the results achieved during the year 2025 and continuing the pace of the work plan for the new year.
The Minister mentioned the most prominent achievements achieved in the sector in the year 2025, as significant progress was recorded in disseminating fiber optic technology to the home, the official launch of fifth generation (5G) technology, and improving coverage in areas with low population density, in addition to strengthening the infrastructure for satellite communications and international connectivity through submarine cable projects.
The same speaker also touched on the achievements of the postal services sector, especially improving financial postal services, disseminating electronic payment methods, enhancing financial inclusion, and modernizing courier activity in a way that supports e-commerce and protects the rights of customers.
The Minister stressed that the sector’s program for the new stage is based on a structural transformation based on modernization, integration, and digital sovereignty. The program includes accelerating the dissemination of very high-speed streaming, expanding the deployment of fiber optic technology and covering the entire national territory by a total percentage at the beginning of 2027, modernizing the infrastructure, promoting modern technologies such as the fifth generation and eSIM, in addition to developing satellite solutions and the Internet of Things to ensure equitable coverage.
The work plan, according to Minister Zerrougui, also focuses on modernizing postal and financial services in Algeria, by strengthening the postal network with automatic dispensers in areas with high population density, improving the network’s performance to ensure expanding access to services and raising the quality of service, and enhancing financial inclusion through diversifying products and electronic payment methods.
