The Senegalese government moves against the Confederation of African Football

The Senegalese government demanded the opening of an independent international investigation into suspected “corruption” within the Confederation of African Football, according to an official statement issued by the Presidency of the Senegalese Republic, today.
The Senegalese authorities protested the decision of the African Union Appeals Committee, following the latter’s announcement of withdrawing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title from the Teranga Lions team.
CAF announced the Moroccan national team as the champion of the 35th edition of Cannes, and justified the decision by Senegal violating Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations following the players’ withdrawal from the field in the final match, giving Morocco victory on the mat with a score of 3-0.
The Senegalese government described CAF’s decision as dangerous and exceptional, which would harm the principles and ethics of sports.
Senegalese officials called for the need to respect the reality of the field, that is, the final result of the match, which coach Pape Thiaw’s squad decided in their favor with Pape Gueye’s goal in the extra period.
The Senegalese Federation moved quickly after the statement published by CAF on Tuesday evening.
The body, headed by Abdoulaye Vall, will write to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland to appeal the decision of the African Union.
The Confederation of African Football has been mired in management problems for some time, due to major conflicts between various members of the executive office headed by South African Patrice Motsepe and his first deputy, Faouzi Lakjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation.
The current office has gone too far in violating the laws of the Football Association, which has caused the latter to lose respect inside and outside the borders of the continent.
It is expected that the national federations will stand in solidarity with their counterparts from Senegal, which threatens to withdraw confidence from the most senior leaders in CAF, led by Patrice Motsepe, who was elected for a second term of four years in March 2025.
