The Security Council condemns Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries and demands that they stop immediately – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

On Wednesday evening, the UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution submitted by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, condemning the attacks attributed to Iran on a number of countries in the region and demanding their immediate cessation.

Thirteen countries voted in favor of the resolution, while Russia and China abstained from voting.

The resolution affirmed the Council’s support for the unity and sovereignty of the Gulf states and Jordan, and strongly condemned the targeting of residential areas and civilian casualties as a result of the attacks, calling on Iran to cease all hostilities and comply with international law.

The text also stressed the need to respect freedom of navigation in vital sea lanes, warning against any attempt to obstruct navigation in the Strait of Hormuz or threaten maritime security in Bab al-Mandab.
