The regulatory authority warns against inflating viewership rates and digital manipulation methods – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The Independent National Authority for Audiovisual Control warned, in a recent statement, of the increasing practices of inflating interaction and follow-up indicators on digital platforms, whether by buying followers or using what are known as “click farms,” considering these methods as technical manipulation that harms the transparency of the advertising market and the credibility of the sector.

The Authority explained that providing unreliable data about viewership rates may fall within the misleading advertising prohibited in accordance with Article 51 of the Book of Conditions, as these practices constitute a violation of the principles of fair competition, affect the decisions of advertisers and lead to the waste of financial resources.

It also warned against circulating lists or classifications claiming to rank channels or artistic works under the name “most viewed” without relying on scientific and approved measurement tools, stressing that uncertified data cannot be considered a reliable reference.

The authority called on all actors in the sector, including television channels, advertising agencies, and digital platforms, to adhere to transparency and professional integrity, stressing that it will take the necessary regulatory measures regarding any transgression or violation.
