The regulatory authority imposes financial penalties on Al-Shorouk Channel

The Independent National Authority for Audiovisual Control imposed financial penalties on the “Al-Shorouk TV” channel for not respecting the time allotted for broadcasting advertising messages, according to what the authority said on Friday.

The statement stated, “In the context of exercising its legal powers in the field of controlling audiovisual activity, the Independent National Authority for Audiovisual Control issued a warning to the concerned television channels, with the intention of forcing them to comply with the legal and regulatory provisions related to audiovisual advertising, within a period of seventy-two (72) hours from the date of issuance of the authority’s decision, in accordance with the provisions of Article 74 of Law No. 23-20 related to audiovisual activity.”

The same source added, “After examining what was broadcast on the television channels’ programming networks during the warning period, it was recorded that the channels concerned with the warning began, after that, to respect the time allotted for broadcasting advertising messages, in accordance with the legal provisions and provisions of the authority’s decisions.”

“While the authority, on the other hand, recorded that Al-Shorouk TV continued to exceed the time allotted for broadcasting advertising messages, and went too far in doing so, in contravention of the provisions mentioned above, and failed to comply with the terms of the warning addressed to it,” the same source highlights.

In view of this, and “in accordance with the provisions of Article 76 of Law No. 20-23 mentioned above, it decided to fine the channel in question with a financial penalty for not complying with the provisions of Articles 58 to 62 of Executive Decree No. 24-250, which specifies the provisions of the book of general conditions imposed on audiovisual communication services,” as confirmed by the same source.

“The authority also warns the concerned channel that if non-compliance with the warning provisions continues in the future, the authority may order the total or partial suspension of the programs in violation, in accordance with the provisions of Article 77 of Law No. 23-20 related to audiovisual activity,” according to what the statement stated.
