The Prime Minister stresses respect for the completion deadlines for the expansion of the port of Annaba and the phosphate mining platform – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Prime Minister Sefi Gharib gave strict instructions to the various institutions and bodies involved in the completion of the Annaba Port expansion project, especially the mining berth included within the integrated phosphate project, stressing the need to fully adhere to completion deadlines and respect the approved technical standards.
This came during a working and inspection visit that led him, today, Saturday, to the state of Annaba, to inspect the progress of the work of the strategic project, in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, calling for accelerating the pace of completion in view of its economic importance.
The Prime Minister was accompanied on this visit by a ministerial delegation that included the Minister of State, the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, Saeed Saeed, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Installations, Abdelkader Galawi, and the Minister of Industry, Yahya Bashir, along with the Minister of Mujahideen and People of Rights, Abdelmalek Tashrift.
The Prime Minister stressed the necessity of receiving the project by the end of 2026, given its strategic nature and its pivotal role in supporting economic diversification options, reducing dependence on fuels, and promoting exports outside the energy sector.
During the visit, the Prime Minister received a detailed technical presentation on the progress of the works, which included the completion stages, contractual deadlines, and measures taken to ensure that the project complies with quality and safety standards. In this context, he stressed the harnessing of all necessary human and material capabilities, and adherence to the books of conditions, to ensure the delivery of the project within its specified deadlines.
The new mining platform will be designated to receive and process approximately 10 million tons annually of phosphate and its derivatives, which will be transported via the Eastern Mine Railway, within an integrated logistical system linking production sites to export facilities.
Linking the Oued El Hadba phosphate mine in the state of Tebessa to the port of Annaba, via a modern double railway, will contribute to reducing transportation costs, improving the profitability of the national phosphate chain, and enhancing the competitiveness of the Algerian product in international markets.
The project includes the completion of a base platform, lengthening the main barrier of the port by 1,400 metres, constructing a mining quay with a depth of 16 meters and a length of 1,600 metres, in addition to preparing backyards on an area of 82 hectares, and digging the basin to the required depth.
It is expected that this structural project will contribute to strengthening the national infrastructure, supporting the national economy, and creating direct and indirect job positions, in addition to stimulating economic mobility in the eastern region, within the framework of implementing the directives of the country’s higher authorities.
