The Prime Minister receives the Director General of the International Monetary Fund – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Prime Minister Sifi Gharib received at the Government Palace the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, who is on an official visit to Algeria.

The meeting discussed various aspects of cooperation between Algeria and the International Monetary Fund, especially joint programs in the fields of finance, statistics, digitization, and rationalization of public spending, in addition to policies to support economic development and diversify the national economy.

Kristalina Georgieva praised the level of existing cooperation relations with Algeria, stressing their importance in supporting the path of development and building bridges of regional cooperation, which is reflected in the high-level symposium organized in partnership between the Bank of Algeria and the International Monetary Fund under the title: “North Africa: Connecting continents and creating opportunities”. She also noted the relevance of the public policies and economic reforms led by the President of the Republic.

The Director General of the International Monetary Fund confirmed that Algeria was among the first countries to achieve a rapid economic recovery after the Corona pandemic, and today it continues to record significant economic performance, especially through major projects completed in the field of infrastructure.

For his part, the Prime Minister expressed his thanks to the Director General of the International Monetary Fund for the interest her institution gives to enhancing cooperation with Algeria, praising the quality of bilateral relations and the mutual readiness to continue coordination in a way that allows optimal exploitation of cooperation opportunities and the embodiment of various programmed activities.

He also reviewed the economic reforms initiated by Algeria under the leadership of the President of the Republic, which contributed to improving the investment climate and supporting the diversification of the national economy, stressing in the same context the trend towards strengthening infrastructure, especially the western railway project, in addition to supporting regional integration through structured national and regional projects that would enhance economic mobility in the region.
