The Prime Minister evaluates the readiness of the locust containment plan in the southwest – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Prime Minister, Seifi Gharib, chaired a joint ministerial meeting devoted to assessing the readiness of the proactive action plan aimed at containing the spread of locusts in some states of the southwest, with the participation of the governors concerned via video conference technology.

This meeting comes within the framework of periodic monitoring of the risks of the spread of desert locusts, based on updates issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in addition to employing national capabilities in the field of satellites to monitor field developments.

The presentations presented during the meeting highlighted the readiness of the field intervention plans that proved effective over the past year, with an emphasis on strengthening the vigilance and surveillance agencies in the southern border states, as they are the first line of confrontation.

Emphasis was also placed on supporting ground and air intervention means, especially the capabilities of the Ministry of National Defense, to ensure rapid response and effectiveness of operations when needed.
