
The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, confirmed that Algeria achieving complete self-sufficiency in durum wheat production is “almost within reach,” after producing 80 percent of its annual needs, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic during a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The country’s abundant production of durum wheat in the current season has saved the state treasury $1.2 billion, says the President of the Republic.
President Tebboune ordered setting a strategic goal in this regard, which is to expand the cultivated area in the Greater South to 500 thousand hectares.
This goal includes Qatari investment in cultivating 117,000 hectares in southern Algeria. Italy’s investment is 36 thousand hectares. In addition to national investments in 120 thousand hectares.
