Media reports revealed that Algerian Football Federation President Walid Sadi chose three African destinations to receive the Greens delegation in anticipation of their entry into the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
This concerns South Africa, Ghana and Equatorial Guinea, whose coach Jamal Belmadi preferred to reside in its capital, Malabo, in March 2022 in order to prepare for the first leg of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar against Cameroon.
At that time, Belmadi justified his choice by its proximity to the Cameroonian city of Douala, and the similarity of its climate to the latter.
The “Shot Africa” website reported that Sadi decided to postpone his return to Algeria, after the second round match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which brought together the national team with its Mozambican counterpart in the city of Maputo on the nineteenth of last November.
The new president of FAF will travel from the Mozambique capital towards Ivory Coast, in order to inspect the various preparation centers that the host country will provide for the teams participating in the “CAN” finals scheduled to start next January 13th.
He then moved to South Africa, according to the same source, before traveling to Ghana, which shares a 700-kilometre geographical border with Ivory Coast.
Sadi concluded his travels by heading to Equatorial Guinea, which is about 1,870 km away from Ivory Coast.
Coach Djamel Belmadi will detail the African destination that will receive the team next January, in preparation for its preparatory camp.
The Desert Warriors are expected to begin the first phase of their preparations for the continental match at the Sidi Moussa Center in the capital, including a friendly confrontation before leaving the homeland.
