The President of the Republic, Abdel Majid Taboun, revealed that the African continent is still absent from the industry of international economic decision, due to the marginalization it affects within the most prominent international financial institutions.

President Taboun explained, during his supervision today, Thursday, the opening of the fourth edition of the African -African Trade Exhibition 2025 in Algeria, that the share of African countries in the International Monetary Fund does not exceed 6.5 percent of the voting rights, which is the weakest compared to other regions, while not more than 11 percent in the World Bank. He added: “Despite Africa’s disintegration of the position of general manager of the organization for the first time in its history, this gain does not cover the reality of the weakening of the continent on the decision -making within it.”

In the same context, the President of the Republic pointed out that the share of Africa of global trade does not exceed 3 percent, despite its possession of 30 percent of the global natural wealth and its embrace of more than a billion and a half people. It also does not exceed its share of global investments 6 percent, which is equivalent to only 94 dollars per person annually, which is the weakest percentage at the international level.

Taboun pointed out that the cross -African trade is still limited in the range of 15 percent, compared to more than 60 percent within the European Union, a reality that deprives the continent’s economies of great opportunities for growth and the introduction of new job positions for young people.

The President of the Republic stressed that Africa suffers a deep gap in the fields of transportation, energy, communications and financing infrastructure, which is estimated at 90 billion dollars annually, which costs the continent to a decrease of about 2 percent of GDP each year.

However, Taboun stressed that these challenges should not be an obstacle, but rather an additional incentive to enhance collective energies and turn them into actual opportunities to advance the wheel of development in Africa.
