The Postal Control Authority launches a campaign to protect digital identity

On Sunday, the Post and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority launched a new awareness campaign bearing the slogan “Protect your digital identity… to protect your privacy,” in a step aimed at enhancing citizens’ awareness of the dangers of neglecting to protect their personal data in the digital space.

The authority explained that this initiative comes in light of the increasing expansion of digital services and citizens’ heavy reliance on mobile phones in various aspects of their daily lives, which requires taking preventive measures to ensure the protection of privacy and personal data.

The Post and Electronic Communications Control Authority stressed the need for subscribers to take a basic step before stopping the mobile phone SIM card or terminating the subscription contract, which is to update or disconnect all digital accounts and services associated with the phone number in question.

According to the authority, these accounts and services include in particular social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram, in addition to email services that are often used to recover passwords, as well as bank accounts, financial applications, and other applications and services that require a link to a phone number.

The campaign warns of the potential risks that subscribers may be exposed to if their phone numbers are reused by other people, as this could lead to hacking of their personal accounts and access to their sensitive data.

Under the slogan “Your digital identity begins with your SIM, protect yourself,” the Authority seeks to establish a culture of digital security among citizens and enhance their awareness of sound practices to protect their personal information in a digital world that is witnessing increasing security challenges.
