Today, Sunday, the Independent National Authority for Audiovisual Control issued an excuse to Al-Shorouk Channel for continuing to prolong the period allocated for advertising breaks, which violates the book of conditions imposed on audiovisual communication services, according to a statement by the authority.
The authority explained that “despite its notification in a statement dated February 2, 2026 of the necessity of respecting the legal and regulatory provisions related to audiovisual advertising, it hopes to receive a voluntary response from the standpoint of self-control and voluntary respect for the laws of the Republic on the part of the channels, especially since it left a wide period of time for the channels sufficient to make the necessary commercial and technical arrangements. However, the same channels prioritized their profit goals at the expense of the interest of the viewer, the quality of the programs, and preserving their independence in preparing programming networks.”
“It was confirmed to the authority, following its examination of what was broadcast on the programming networks of television channels, that some television channels persisted in prolonging the duration of advertising breaks, exceeding the maximum legal limit, and arbitrarily showing the product during the presentation of programs, which constitutes a violation of the provisions of the book of general conditions imposed on audiovisual communication services, which prompted the authority to summon these channels,” the statement adds.
According to the statement, and after listening to representatives of the concerned television channels regarding these violations, most of these channels complied with respecting the laws, while Al-Shorouk TV refused to do so.
The statement adds: “Today, the above-mentioned channel was officially warned to comply, within 72 hours from the date of issuance of the authority’s decision, with the provisions of Articles 58 to 62 of Executive Decree No. 24-250 specifying the book of general conditions imposed on audiovisual communication services.”
In a related context, the authority alerted the concerned channel that “in the event of non-compliance with the warning within the specified period, financial penalties will be issued against it, specifying their value and duration. The authority may also order the complete or partial suspension of the programs in violation, in accordance with Articles 76 and 77 of Law No. 23-20 related to audiovisual activity.”
