The new Iranian Supreme Leader rejects proposals to calm tensions with America

A senior Iranian official said on Tuesday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei rejected proposals conveyed by two mediating countries to Tehran to calm tensions or cease fire with the United States, during his first foreign policy meeting.

The official added that Khamenei’s position regarding revenge against the United States and Israel is “very firm and serious.”

The official did not clarify whether the supreme leader attended the meeting in person.

The official said that the supreme leader said that “it is not the time for peace until the United States and Israel are forced to submit, accept defeat, and pay reparations.”

Three sources reported on March 14 that the Trump administration rejected efforts by allies in the Middle East to begin diplomatic negotiations aimed at ending the war with Iran.
