Algeria is a pioneer in the field of space science

The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, congratulated the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on the successful launch of the “Alsat-3A” satellite dedicated to Earth observation, which represents an advanced and important step in Africa’s space and geospatial capabilities, highlighting that Algeria is a pioneer in the field of space science.
Ali Youssef said, “This achievement highlights Algeria’s leadership in the field of space science, and reflects its commitment to harnessing satellite technologies for sustainable development, environmental monitoring, disaster risk reduction, and supporting policymaking based on accurate information.”
The President of the Commission expressed his hope that the high-resolution data that the “Alsat-3A” satellite will provide will contribute to serving national and continental priorities, in line with Agenda 2063 and African space policy and strategy.
The African Union Commission also welcomes the strong spirit of international cooperation that accompanied the launch of this satellite, and commends Algeria’s continued peaceful investments in outer space for the collective progress of Africa.
Algeria has successfully launched the new satellite “Alsat-3A”, which will allow providing the country with additional data through high-resolution satellite capabilities designated for monitoring, as well as strengthening the system in the field of geospatial inquiry and value-added geospatial information.
The Minister Delegate to the Ministry of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, according to a statement by the Ministry of National Defense on Thursday, continued at the remote sensing ground station site the launch of the “Alsat-3A” surveillance satellite, starting from the Jiuguan launch base in northwest China. This is within the framework of strengthening and developing national capabilities in the field of space surveillance, and an embodiment of the partnership between the Algerian Space Agency and the Chinese Aerospace Science and Technology Company.
The launch of the “Alsat-3A” satellite took place at five o’clock and one minute in the morning (05:01) Algeria time (12:01) China time, and was crowned with success. It will allow Algeria to be provided with additional data through high-resolution satellite capabilities designated for monitoring, as well as strengthening the system in the field of geospatial inquiry and value-added geospatial information, such as cartography, digital elevation models, and others.
