A statement by the National Gendarmerie Command stated that it is a continuation of the specific operations carried out by the units of the Regional Group of the National Gendarmerie in Oum El Bouaghi, with the aim of eliminating the phenomenon of illicit trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances, and following information obtained by employees of the Regional Battalion of the National Gendarmerie in Ain Melilla, that there is a criminal network working to transport a shipment of psychotropic substances coming from one of the southern states.
The same authorities added that, taking advantage of this information, a special plan of action was drawn up aimed at spreading the activity of this network. After monitoring, surveillance, and tight occupation of the field, a truck loaded with bales of hay was stopped, and after a thorough inspection, a significant amount of psychotropic substances were found. They were placed inside large plastic bags hidden and camouflaged among the bales of hay, with the aim of misleading the security services and evading security surveillance. The driver and the truck were arrested and taken to the division headquarters.
The Gendarmerie Command indicated that, in continuation of the investigation into the case and taking advantage of the detainee, and relying on special investigative techniques by the investigation team, several places were identified that are used as hideouts by the network’s members, with the identification of their members so that an action plan could be drawn up to arrest all the network’s members. After completing the necessary legal procedures in coordination with the competent Republic Prosecutor’s Office, regional jurisdiction was extended to several states across the country and in coordination with the Central Service for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. The specified places were raided and the arrests were made. 3 people, a motorcycle and two tourist vehicles that were used by network members were seized.
The operation enabled the dismantling of a dangerous national criminal network consisting of 7 people, 4 arrested and 3 on the run, with the seizure of a quantity of pregabalin 300 mg psychotropic substances estimated at 117,000 capsules, a truck, two tourist cars, a motorcycle, a quantity of drugs and mobile phones.
On the other hand, the Search and Investigation Service of the National Gendarmerie in Tizi Ouzou was able to dismantle a criminal network consisting of two individuals who were active in forging and imitating state seals and stamps and using them with their knowledge of this.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities, taking advantage of information about the suspicious activity of a person who was forging administrative documents and counterfeiting state seals. After searching the home of one of the suspects, administrative documents and certificates from banking institutions, public and private institutions, automatic media devices, magnetic holders and a sum of money were seized.
The Gendarmerie Services indicated that after completing all applicable legal procedures, the suspects were brought before the judicial authorities.
