The National Assembly unanimously approves the amendment to the Nationality Law – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, Thursday, members of the National Assembly unanimously approved the text of the amendment to the Nationality Law, during a public session chaired by the Speaker of the Assembly, Azouz Nasseri, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa, and the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Najiba Djilali.

The Minister of Justice explained, after the vote, that the approved text aims to confront actions that affect the stability of the country, and to preserve the sanctity of the bond of Algerian nationality between the citizen and his state.

The Minister pointed out that the importance of this amendment lies in the introduction of a new legal system for stripping Algerian nationality, whether original or acquired, as a mechanism to confront the actions of some people who have shied away from their legal and moral obligations towards the homeland and aimed to harm it from outside the national territory.

He stressed that the divestiture procedures will be governed by strict legal guarantees, which include specifying cases exclusively, notifying those concerned and enabling them to provide their clarifications, in addition to studying the files by a special qualified committee that includes specialists from different sectors and bodies, ensuring that the process is subject to the logic of the rule of law without arbitrariness.

The Minister of Justice concluded by emphasizing that this text will enable Algeria to confront hostile plans and thwart everything that targets its security and stability.
