The National Assembly approves the law criminalizing French colonialism, with reservations on 13 articles – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, Thursday, members of the National Assembly approved the text of the law criminalizing French colonialism in Algeria, with reservations on 13 articles to reconsider its wording and review its provisions, especially those related to “compensation and apology,” due to its lack of consistency with the national direction established by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The ratification took place during a public session chaired by the Speaker of the Council, Azouz Nasseri, in the presence of the Minister of Mujahideen and People of Rights, Abdelmalek Tashrift, and the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Najiba Djilali.

Under the reservation, applicable constitutional and legal procedures will be applied to these articles, including Article 145 of the Constitution (fifth paragraph) and Articles 88 to 98 of Organic Law No. 16-12 as amended, by submitting them to the equal-member committee between the two chambers of Parliament.

Articles subject to review include: 1, 5, 7, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 25 and 26, as the National Defense Committee requested that they be revised to ensure the coherence of the text and enhance its legal and institutional effectiveness.

Following the ratification, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Defenders confirmed that the law reflects the popular will and consolidates the Algerian people’s conviction that the national memory does not accept compromise or division, in line with the supreme directives of the President of the Republic to protect and preserve the national memory.
