Today, Sunday, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting, which included presentations on the launch of the zinc and lead mine in Oued Amizour, and follow-up on the progress of the mining railway project for the Bilad Al-Hadba – Oued Al-Kebir – Annaba port line, to transport phosphate and extracted and produced fertilizers, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.
Based on the same statement, following the presentation of the agenda and then the government’s activity by the Prime Minister, during the past two weeks, the President of the Republic issued the following orders, instructions and directives:
The President of the Republic ordered the Prime Minister to closely follow up on the implementation of the decisions of the Council of Ministers and the government on the ground.
The President approved ten million centimes in support of the costs of Algerian pilgrims for this year, bringing the total value to 82 million centimes instead of 92 million centimes.
- Regarding the launch of the zinc and lead mine in Oued Amizur
The President of the Republic stressed the necessity of launching this promising economic project in March 2026, as it will provide jobs and economic benefits to the region in particular and to Algeria in general.
- Regarding the progress of the completion of the mining railway project for the Bilad Al-Hadba – Oued Al-Kebir – Annaba Port line:
The President stressed that the state’s investment in the mining sector aims to provide new foundations and resources for the national economy in the coming stages and for the benefit of generations.
The President of the Republic also ordered the Minister of Public Works to submit a monthly follow-up report on the progress of this project, stressing that the work on it will be completed by the end of 2026, and that it will enter into exploitation in the first quarter of 2027 at the latest, with the aim of increasing Algeria’s fertilizer production capacity.
In the same context, the President directed the government to follow up on the project daily and overcome all difficulties facing it, provided that the work on it proceeds at maximum speed with work without stopping.
- Regarding the mining berth within the framework of the expansion of the port of Annaba
The President ordered coordination between the public and interior works sectors, transportation, and the foreign partner to double the pace and complete the project by the end of 2026, as it is part of the strategy for economic change and freedom from dependence on fuels.
- Regarding the fishing route paper for the year 2026
The President of the Republic stressed that developing the marine fishing and aquaculture sector is a national demand and a priority, due to its importance in strengthening the foundations of food security. Therefore, efforts must be redoubled to raise production.
On the other hand, President Tebboune announced that the state would continue its commitment to fishermen and encourage them through accompaniment and benefiting from facilities and incentives to raise Algeria’s marine fishing quotas by introducing modern and effective methods of exploitation, since Algeria was not fully exploiting its quotas.
As for the fishing sector, the President ordered the involvement of the Fishermen’s Federation in consultation and coordination with them in every decision that concerns the sector.
Meanwhile, he instructed the Minister of Agriculture in the field of afforestation to adopt modern mechanization to increase the production of fruit trees, and to move in particular towards planting trees with high economic returns, such as argan trees.
- Regarding the national football team’s participation in the recent African Cup:
The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, instructed the Minister of Sports to convey his warm congratulations to the national team and its technical staff, headed by coach Vladimir Petkovic, who wished them a successful journey in the upcoming World Cup, to encourage them.
The President also gave a special greeting to the Algerian fans, especially the supporters from our community abroad who traveled in force from various countries of the world to support our team in the African Cup of Nations.
The Cabinet meeting concluded with the approval of appointments and termination of assignments to senior jobs and positions in the state.
