The Ministry of Communications issued an excuse to the French-language periodical “EL WATAN” after it published in its issue No. 10731, issued on Thursday, January 22, 2026, false and misleading news for public opinion on its front page and an article on its fourth page, under the title: Members of the National Assembly say “no” to the new traffic law (Les Sénateurs disent “non” au nouveau code de la route), y.
The Ministry explained in its statement that this news is contrary to the truth – as confirmed by the statement issued by the National Assembly in this regard – and is a clear and blatant violation of the provisions of the Organic Media Law dated August 27, 2023, especially Articles 3, 20, and 35 thereof.
The Ministry of Communications also clarified that the publication violated the provisions of the Organic Media Law issued on August 27, 2023, especially Articles 3, 20, and 35, and the provisions of Law No. 23-19 related to the written and electronic press, stressing the need to ensure accuracy and verify information before publishing to avoid misleading public opinion and harming the public interest.
In the same statement, the Ministry stressed the newspaper’s immediate compliance with the procedures stipulated by law, based on the provisions of Articles 68 and 71 of Law No. 23-19, dated December 2, 2023, relating to the written press and the electronic press, and based on the notification received from the National Assembly; It also reserves its full right to take the necessary measures in the event of non-compliance.
The Ministry of Communications expressed its denunciation of this media outlet’s clear violation of the laws, the clear violation of professional ethics, and the deviation from professional controls, and stresses the duty to ensure accuracy and the necessity of verifying information and the reliability of its sources, in order to avoid spreading false, misleading, and baseless news that would distort public opinion and harm the public interest.
In the same regard, the Ministry affirmed its firm adherence to and full respect for the principle of media freedom, and its confidence in the sense of responsibility that should be enjoyed by ladies and gentlemen of the media. It will not hesitate to take appropriate legal measures against those who commit such violations that do not honor their owners.
On the other hand, the Ministry once again called on all media institutions and all members of this noble profession to adhere to media professionalism and the spirit of responsibility, to ensure the credibility of media discourse, to respect the ethics and morals of the profession, and to adhere to the requirements of the national interest.
