The Minister of Agriculture discusses ways to consolidate the partnership with the International Finance Corporation – New Algeria

A statement by the Ministry, today, Monday, explained that on the occasion of this meeting, which took place yesterday, Sunday, a summary was presented on the strategy adopted by Algeria to develop and modernize the agricultural sector in order to enhance food security, by encouraging local and foreign investment in the production, transformation and export of agricultural products, given the capabilities available to the country to achieve self-sufficiency in many currently imported products.

In this regard – the same source adds – the Algerian experience was highlighted with regard to the development of desert agriculture and the country’s trend towards developing modern and sustainable agriculture. This is what prompted the Foundation to offer the possibility of providing technical and financial support to agricultural projects in Algeria, especially in the field of enhancing production efficiency and enabling exporters to adopt internationally applicable quality standards and access to new markets, as well as establishing a business incubator specialized in agricultural technology to accompany and support innovative projects in this field.

The same statement added that the issue of financing the agricultural sector was discussed and the possibility of the International Finance Corporation accompanying the Ministry of Agriculture to develop new and modern financing mechanisms, in addition to addressing the issue of agricultural insurance and its role in protecting farmers and stabilizing production.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue consultations and organize technical working sessions to develop a practical partnership plan aimed at promoting investment and supporting sustainable development in the agricultural sector in Algeria.
