The Kremlin criticized the statements of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about preparing for a possible war with Russia, describing them as “irresponsible” and reflecting a lack of awareness of the seriousness of wars and their disastrous effects.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in statements to Russian state television:
Rutte’s speech “sounds like it came from a representative of a generation that has forgotten what World War II really was like.”
Adding that such statements increase political and military tension in Europe.
In a speech he delivered in the German capital, Berlin, Rutte pointed out the need for NATO to prepare “for the scale of the war that our ancestors fought,” stressing that Russia is “the alliance’s next target.”
On the other hand, the Kremlin has repeatedly denied allegations by NATO and European leaders about Moscow’s offensive intentions against member states.
He described these accusations as “nonsense” aimed at inflaming anti-Russian sentiment within Europe.
