FC Twente revealed that the Dutch Football Association’s arbitration committee canceled the red card awarded to Ramez Zerrougui in the Heracles Almelo match.
The Algerian international player was sent off by referee Sander van dar Eijk in the 58th minute during the match in the 19th round of the Dutch League.
Zerrougui did not make any violent movement to show that he was assaulting the competitor who pulled his shirt, and merely pushed him, but the referee had a different opinion.
Twente scored two goals to return with its seventh victory this season, as it ranks sixth in the overall standings.
The Desert Warrior will be able to participate in the match against Excelsior Rotterdam, for the 20th round of the local league, next Saturday.
Zerrougui recently returned to his club after participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals with Al-Khader.
The Ajax Amsterdam Academy graduate was unsuccessful in his third appearance in the continental competition.
The Greens were eliminated from the Cannes quarter-finals after losing to Nigeria 2-0.
The match included repeated errors by the refereeing team led by Senegalese Issa Sy, which required FAF to submit an official complaint to the African Union.
Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic included Ramez in two matches in the starting lineup.
While he was given some minutes in the matches between Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and excluded him against Equatorial Guinea.
In contrast, the Algerian enjoys the trust of Dutch coach John van den Broome in Enschede.
The player has been a starter in all of his team’s matches since the beginning of the season, except for those that coincided with his participation with Al-Khader (two matches in the league and one in the local cup).
The 27-year-old scored a goal and provided four assists in 19 matches.
Zerrougui is active at Twente Enschede on loan for one season, coming from Feyenoord Rotterdam.
