The Gulf Cooperation Council and Britain call for the protection of international navigation in Hormuz in the face of Iranian threats

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the Gulf Cooperation Council and Britain called for taking effective measures to ensure freedom of navigation and protect regional airspace in the face of Iranian threats aimed at obstructing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz or destabilizing maritime security in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

This came after a meeting between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and their British counterpart Yvette Cooper last Friday, where the two sides discussed the recent Iranian attacks on the GCC countries.

The statement stressed that the security and stability of the Gulf region constitute the basis for the stability of the global economy, with their close connection to the security of the United Kingdom and the international system as a whole.

The ministers stressed that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries reserve their full right to take all necessary measures, whether individually or collectively, to maintain their security and stability and protect their territories in the face of any Iranian threats.
