The Algerian national handball team concluded its participation in the African Cup of Nations held in Rwanda in fourth place, after losing today, Saturday, to the Cape Verde national team in the ranking match, with a score of 29-23.
The first half witnessed a great balance between the two teams, as it ended in a 16-16 draw, before the “Greens” took control of the beginning of the second half and achieved the lead in the fortieth minute with a score of 20-18, which suggested the possibility of seizing the bronze medal.
However, the Algerian performance collapsed in the last twenty minutes of the match, as the physical and tactical performance declined, and the defense committed rudimentary mistakes that allowed Cape Verde to return and advance, so the match ended with a six-goal difference in favor of the opponent.
This loss, according to observers, is an indication of the decline in the level of Algerian handball in recent years, amid the absence of a clear strategy from the ministry custodian of sports, despite the recommendations of the President of the Republic, at a time when coach Saleh Bouchkrio announced that he would not continue to lead the national team.
