The government is evaluating the readiness of the plan to contain the spread of locusts

Prime Minister, Seifi Gharib, held a meeting to evaluate the readiness of the proactive action plan that was developed to contain the spread of locusts in some states of the southwest, with the aim of increasing the readiness of vigilance and surveillance agencies at the level of the southern border states.

The Prime Minister, Seifi Gharib, chaired, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Department, on Sunday, in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister chaired a joint ministerial meeting devoted to assessing the readiness of the proactive action plan that was developed to contain the spread of locusts in some states of the southwest, with the participation of the governors concerned via the remote visual lecture technology.

This meeting falls within the framework of the ongoing assessment of the risks of the desert locust spread and its development in the region in accordance with updates from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the exploitation of national capabilities in the field of satellites.

The presentations presented during the meeting highlighted the readiness of the field work plans prepared for this purpose, which proved their effectiveness last year, while increasing the readiness of the vigilance and surveillance devices at the level of the southern border states, which constitute the first front in the confrontation, and strengthening the means of ground and air intervention, especially those affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense.

Algeria has developed general plans for the prevention and control of locusts through continuous coverage that includes periods of dormancy and spread. This procedure included permanent and continuous monitoring operations throughout the year, which included all regions of the country, especially the southern regions, with the aim of limiting the cessation of the breeding and gathering of locusts, as well as operations to treat the affected agricultural areas, which were assigned to organize special control teams, in addition to recruiting all human and material means to confront this phenomenon and limit its spread.
