The Director General of Customs announces the referral of the draft new customs law to the competent authorities – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The Director General of Customs, Major General Abdul Hafeez Bakhoush, announced the referral of draft new legal texts framing the activity of the Customs Authority to the competent authorities for approval, most notably the draft new Customs Law, in addition to the draft Basic Law on the wires of the Customs Sector.

Major General Bakhoush explained, in an interview with the “Customs” magazine published in its latest issue, that the preparation of the draft new customs law was carried out according to a participatory approach that included frameworks from various central and regional departments, noting that the text was referred to the relevant authorities to complete its legal path leading to its final approval.

He added that the project enshrines the principles of simplification and transparency in customs transactions, while enhancing reliance on digitalization as a basic mechanism in managing operations, explaining that its aim is to facilitate procedures for economic dealers and enhance legal guarantees for investors, which contributes to creating a more competitive and attractive climate for investment, taking into account international agreements and modern standards approved by the World Customs Organization.

In parallel, the Director General of Customs confirmed the completion of the draft basic law on the sector’s wires, highlighting that this project was completed within the framework of a comprehensive reform approach that takes into account the specificity of customs tasks, and aims to improve the working conditions of sector members, by reclassifying ranks, clarifying tasks and powers, improving conditions for promotion, and reviewing the incentive system in line with field performance and professionalism requirements.

Major General Bakhoush indicated that this project has completed its first technical and legislative stages, and has been referred to the competent authorities to complete its official approval process.
