The control authority alerts the TV channels

The Independent National Authority for Audiovisual Control stated, on Saturday, that the practice of solidarity work through audiovisual media channels remains subject to a binding legal and regulatory framework that guarantees transparency and safeguards the public interest.
The authority explained, in a statement, that it recorded, with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, “some media channels broadcasting solidarity programs and campaigns, during which donations were collected without clarity of the beneficiary party or the necessary management mechanisms and transparency.”
The statement added, “While the authority values the spirit of solidarity and interdependence that characterizes Algerian society during this holy month,” it affirms that “the practice of solidarity work through audiovisual media channels remains subject to a binding legal and regulatory framework that guarantees transparency and preserves the public interest.”
The same authority indicated that “in accordance with the powers vested in it, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 32 of Law No. 23-20, which obliges audiovisual communication services to refrain from broadcasting or publishing any misleading or incorrect content, including media programs or campaigns, to ensure the transparency and objectivity of the information and to protect the public from misinformation,” it states that “any charitable activity or campaign to collect donations in audiovisual communication means must be transparent, fair, and carried out exclusively through licensed entities and organizations.” It has a legal basis and in accordance with the legislation and laws that regulate this type of operations.”
The authority also affirms “the necessity of preserving the dignity of people included in solidarity operations and not exploiting their situation in the media.”
On the other hand, these campaigns must not be exploited to promote people or to use the religious or emotional dimension to achieve gains at the expense of the public interest, and such practices must be subject to legal and regulatory oversight, to ensure transparency, integrity, and adherence to the provisions of the law and professional ethics, especially in the media field.
Accordingly, the authority confirmed that it “will reserve its right to pursue these violations and take all necessary legal and regulatory measures to ensure the protection of the public interest and the preservation of the sanctity of this holy month.”
