The Constitutional Court discusses mechanisms for constitutional amendment in Algeria – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, the Constitutional Court held a symposium on “The Legal Framework for Constitutional Amendment,” in the presence of the Advisor to the President of the Republic, Nasr al-Din Ben Tayfour, its President, Laila Asalawi, and a number of the body’s members and employees, in an atmosphere that the statement described as “scientific and interactive.”

The presentation by the Presidential Advisor addressed the legal and constitutional aspects of the amendment, reviewing the constitutional procedures and guarantees, while emphasizing national constants and established principles.

The symposium came in conjunction with a draft “technical constitutional amendment” that was previously presented at a national symposium chaired by the Prime Minister and in which Boualem Boualem, Director of the Presidential Office, and party leaders participated, during which he presented 10 proposals related to organizing elections, conditions for candidacy, and the tasks of the Independent National Authority for Elections, in addition to improving the parliamentary framework and ensuring the continuity of institutions.

The symposium was attended by professors and students from faculties of law, and higher schools of judiciary, administration, and political science, as part of the court’s keenness to open up educational institutions and provide the opportunity to learn about the mechanisms of constitutional amendment in Algeria.
