The Director General of the Central Pharmacy for Hospitals, Samir Farhat, revealed the acquisition of 500 types of medicines to enhance the stock of the pharmacy and hospital pharmacies, especially those that have experienced pressure in recent days, highlighting that the public authorities have spared no effort to provide the necessary financial means to provide treatments.
Farhat confirmed in a statement to the APS that the central pharmacy of the hospitals had “acquired 500 types of medicines to enhance the stock of the pharmacy and hospital pharmacies, especially those that have experienced pressure,” stressing in the same context the medicines that fall within the framework of anesthesia and are intended for surgical operations.
By the way, the same official attributed the reasons for the “pressure” that was recorded to the relief after the period of the Covid-19 pandemic and the return to medical activities, especially in surgical departments in general, and the gradual emergence of new patients, as the pace of activities in the mentioned departments increased.
He also explained in this regard that the central pharmacy “runs a proactive program according to the requests of hospital institutions to procure many drugs, including those used in anesthesia, according to the programmed needs, but these requests often exceed the quantity purchased” due to the registration of a new number of patients, which creates pressure on them. .
Mr. Farhat also revealed “the provision of medicines that fall within the framework of purifying the veins of patients with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy during this week,” adding that “he asked the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production to encourage the production of this type of medicine locally during the coming years.”
And the same official highlighted that the problem of interruptions with regard to drugs intended for the treatment of cancer “is not raised at all.” Rather, in order to improve care for patients, “we are keen to provide another type represented in innovative medicines,” adding that the laboratories producing this type of medicine “responded to our request, whether in terms of supply period or The price” and the “receipt of requests” documents will be signed within the specified deadlines, to be delivered to hospital institutions soon.

A digital platform for order management and drug inventory

And he announced, on the other hand, that within the framework of the digitization process, the central pharmacy of hospitals launched a digital platform to manage the receipt of requests during this month after facilitating access to it for all hospital institutions, indicating that despite some reluctance at the beginning, the number of electronic requests witnessed an increase. Gradually, it has now reached 600 applications.

According to its general manager, the pharmacy seeks to move to a second stage in the field of digitization, which is to improve the management of hospital institutions’ stocks to provide all types of medicines with them, create a process of solidarity among them, and avoid falling into some interruptions recorded in some types of medicines from time to time on the one hand, as well as recording the accumulation of some. the other.

This process will also allow – according to him – to ensure good follow-up of the management of medicines in hospital institutions and to fight waste by transferring medicines before their expiry date from hospital institutions to others that need them.

With regard to the digitization of the central pharmacy administration, Farhat said that the process is gradually developing, which will allow modernization of management as well as being proactive in resolving difficulties or interruption problems, if any, through notification.
