Yesterday, the political team of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, issued a strongly worded statement following his assassination at his residence in the city of Zintan, calling on the Libyan and international judiciary, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and open an independent and transparent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime.
The statement indicated that the assassination of Saif al-Islam represents a blow to the chances of peace and stability in Libya, threatening that the crime will not pass without prosecuting and punishing everyone involved in it.
Considering that his blood will remain “a curse that haunts traitors and a beacon that illuminates the path of salvation for all believers in a strong and independent Libya.”
The political team addressed Saif al-Islam’s supporters by saying: “The real response to the killers is to adhere to his national project and stand firm on its principles.”
Stressing that the martyr believed in “one Libya that can accommodate all its people without exclusion.”
The statement stated that the operation was carried out by four treacherous masked men, who stormed Saif al-Islam’s residence and turned off the cameras in an attempt to obscure the traces of the crime.
Before a direct clash took place with the victim, which resulted in his death, they described the incident as “treacherous and cowardly.”
