Within a week, detachments of the People’s National Army were able to arrest 5 members of support for terrorist groups, while 28 drug dealers were arrested and attempts to bring 1 quintal of processed kif across the border with Morocco were thwarted.
A statement by the Ministry of National Defense, on Wednesday, stated that, within the framework of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army stopped, 5 members of support for terrorist groups, during separate operations across the national territory.
In the same context, and within the framework of combating organized crime and confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in the country, the National Army detachments, during specific operations across various military areas, in coordination with the joint security services, arrested 28 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to bring a quintal and 74 kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco, and seized 3.5 kilograms of cocaine and 468,516 hallucinogenic tablets.
Other detachments of the People’s National Army also arrested 263 people in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Saleh, and In Guazzam, and seized 25 vehicles, 339 electric generators, and 213 pressure hammers, in addition to quantities of a mixture of gold ore, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations.
The statement added that army detachments arrested 17 other people and seized a Kalashnikov machine gun, 4 hunting rifles, and 468,516 liters of fuel destined for smuggling, during separate operations.
On the other hand, coast guards thwarted illegal immigration attempts on the national coast and rescued 73 people who were on board traditional-made boats, while 371 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.
