The Algiers Mosque opens Sahih Al-Bukhari reading sessions – New Algeria

The Dean of the Algiers Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad al-Ma’moun al-Qasimi al-Hasani, supervised this Sunday evening, the first of the month of Rajab 1447 AH, corresponding to December 21, 2025, in the mosque space, the opening ceremony of the reading sessions of the book al-Jami’ al-Sahih by Imam al-Bukhari, may God have mercy on him. This is in revitalization of the noble Prophetic Sunnah, and in keeping with the guidance of Algerian scholars in welcoming the sacred months.

According to a statement by the Algiers Mosque, the inaugural council witnessed the presence of academic and national figures, led by the President of the Supreme Islamic Council, Prof. Dr. Mabrouk Zaid Al-Khair, and the President of the Algerian Muslim Scholars Association, Dr. Abdel Halim Quba, and Professor Ammar Talebi, in addition to a group of sheikhs, imams, and students of knowledge.

In an opening speech, the Dean recalled the antiquity of these councils in the history of Algeria, recalling his witnesses to the councils of the “Great Mosque” in the capital in the 1960s and 1970s, with Algeria’s leading scholars such as Sheikh Muhammad Baba Omar, Sheikh Muhammad Sharif, and Sheikh Abd al-Rahman Shaiban, may God have mercy on them all.

He expressed his happiness that the Algiers Mosque today is decorated with this scientific and spiritual tradition, stressing that this edifice is an extension of those scientific citadels. Asking God Almighty to bring the month of Rajab to the nation with goodness, right and blessings, and for us to reach Ramadan in security and faith.

The director of the mosque space, Prof. Dr. Imad Ben Amer, for his part, confirmed that this council is a revival of a Sunnah that the people of the Islamic Maghreb in general, and Algeria in particular, have always followed. Calling on the worshipers to obtain the benefits of these councils that will be held daily after the noon and afternoon prayers.

This, and the collective reading of the first hadiths of “Sahih” with their connected chains of transmission began; These councils are scheduled to continue throughout the months of Rajab, Shaban, and Ramadan, to culminate in the closing ceremony of the “Al-Musnad Mosque” on the blessed Night of Destiny, God Almighty willing.
