
The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdul Haqq Sayhi, stressed that protecting workers’ rights and preserving job positions is a national duty that reflects the state’s commitment to the principles of social justice and the rule of law.
According to a statement by the Ministry, Abdul Haq Sayhi chaired a meeting devoted to evaluating the activities of the Labor Inspectorate and including regional labor inspectors. This meeting falls within the embodiment of the government’s directives related to upgrading governance in the management of public facilities and enhancing the effectiveness of inspection and monitoring agencies.
The Minister stressed the strategic importance of the field role of the labor inspector, as he is a key actor in implementing labor, employment and social security legislation and accompanying economic and social institutions in their respect for the provisions of the labor law and various relevant legal texts, and upgrading the work environment in a way that contributes to supporting the national economy, stressing that the continuous evaluation of sectoral work programs represents a pivotal basis in formulating future strategic visions for the sector.
The Inspector General of Labor also gave a comprehensive presentation that included the general strategy of the Inspectorate and the work program in the short and medium terms. The Minister also listened to presentations made by the regional inspectors that addressed the most important field activities, the annual outcome, and the practical measures taken to combat the phenomenon of informal work and ensure respect for workers’ rights.
After discussing the various interventions, the Minister issued a set of instructions and directives, centered around strengthening coordination between regional labor inspectorates in order to ensure greater effectiveness in the field and integration of efforts at the local and national levels, continuing efforts aimed at combating informal work by intensifying regular field campaigns and activating oversight mechanisms.
The same speaker highlighted the need to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and the implementation of social legislation strictly and fairly, while ensuring a safe and fair work environment, and improving follow-up and evaluation mechanisms by establishing a national reference dashboard to unify management tools and determine performance indicators.
The Minister stressed the necessity of adopting a sensitization and awareness approach directed at institutions and workers, based on accompaniment and advice instead of being limited to the deterrent aspect, while strengthening inter-coordination with sectors and institutions according to a modern digital approach that contributes to eliminating bureaucracy and achieving transparency.
The Minister also indicated that the preparation of a road paper will begin at the central level that determines the general directions of the sector and the action plan for the next stage, calling on the executives to work in a team spirit and collective work to achieve the established goals, stressing that protecting workers’ rights and preserving job positions is not only an administrative task, while it is a national duty that reflects the state’s commitment to the principles of social justice and the rule of law.
