The Algerian Federation organizes the first friendly match for the Greens in preparation for the World Cup

The Algerian Football Federation has decided on the identity of the national team’s first competitor during the international break next March.

National and Arab media unanimously agreed that FAF had agreed with its Uruguayan counterpart to play a friendly match in the British capital, London.

Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic is taking advantage of the occasion to prepare perfectly for the opening match against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.

The Uruguay national team will be in the fog capital to meet England on March 27, at Wembley Stadium.

Media sources from Uruguay reported that the Algerian Federation proposed programming the friendly date in the capital, Montevideo, on March 31, an option that seems unlikely.

Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa’s squad includes a large number of players active in European leagues, which complicates the task of moving back and forth within four days.

It is noteworthy that the Uruguay national team faces Spain, the Cape Verde Islands and the Saudi national team, in the eighth group for the 23rd edition of the World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada.

The national and Uruguayan national teams met in a friendly confrontation 17 years ago, on the grounds of the July 5, 1962 stadium in the capital.

The match then ended with the Greens’ victory with an unanswered goal, scored by striker Rafik Jabour in the minute, ten minutes before the end of normal time.

The national team, under the leadership of veteran coach Rabeh Saadane at the time, was preparing to participate in the World Cup finals hosted by South Africa, as the first African country to host the World Cup.

Uruguay’s population during that period included a group of stars, such as the attacking duo Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

Retired coach Oscar Tabarez’s squad performed admirably in the African World Cup, where it ranked fourth.
