The African Peace and Security Council adopts the Algerian initiative to establish a continental map for security – Algerian dialogue

The Confederation of Peace and Security Council has adopted its closing statement related to the meeting that Algeria chaired on the topic of “early warning system and the map of risk and threats”, which was an opportunity for member states to discuss ways to enhance the mechanisms of preventive diplomacy to reduce conflicts and conflicts on the continent.

In its statement, the Council affirmed that the adoption of a proactive approach is based on permanent monitoring, preparedness, and a rapid and effective response, represents the cornerstone of preventing the escalation of crises and protecting security and peace in Africa.

The Peace and Security Council welcomed the Algerian initiative to establish a “continental map for security” as a practical tool to support preventive decisions, calling on all parties concerned with preventing, managing and settling conflicts to institutionalize this mechanism before the end of the current year. The statement also highlighted that this map will constitute a constant updating mechanism for risks and threats, which gives the council a greater ability to respond to the rapid and effective crises through a unified and integrated vision.

The statement also praised the pivotal role of regional structures and mechanisms of the African Union, similar to the African evaluation mechanism by the counterparts, the Confederation of African Confederation of Terrorism, the police cooperation mechanism (African), the regional ability of North Africa, and the African Intelligence and Security Committee, stressing the importance of unifying efforts in the field of crisis management and risks, promoting governance and exchange Information.

Algeria’s inclusion of this issue comes within the priorities of its presidency of the Peace and Security Council, in line with its fixed commitment to embodying the leading project of the 2063 agenda on “silence guns in Africa”, and its established conviction that security and stability should be achieved through African solutions based on cooperation and coordination between member states.
